The manifesto announced an extension of the government's free ration scheme for another five years, with a commitment to enhance self-reliance in the production of pulses, edible oils, and vegetables to stabilize prices and support low-income families.

Congress calls BJP's Manifesto an Apology

In a recent interview, P. Chidambaram, known for his role as the architect of the Congress party's manifesto, discussed the vast differences between the Nehruvian era and the current political landscape. He emphasized the party's oath to "reversing the damage done in the last 10 years" as a central theme of the manifesto.

Congress has mentioned the capture of institutions and the damage achieved to democracy and Constitutional values, they said the first thing we assure is freedom, which loses its meaning when coupled with fear. Part three of the Constitution enshrines essential freedoms for every citizen, such as the liberty of speech and manifestation, assembly, association, work, and residence anywhere in the country. However, when freedom is tainted by fear, it ceases to be true freedom. Therefore, our foremost commitment is to ensure freedom from fear.

The chapter contains multiple pledges, including a review of rules that intrude on the right to privacy. We commit to respecting personal choices in food, dress, relationships, and residence across India. Furthermore, we pledge that both houses of Parliament will convene for 100 days yearly, with one day each week devoted to discussing the opponent's plan, similar to the exercise in the UK. Additionally, we promise that the presiding officers of both houses will remain neutral by severing ties with any political party.
