Bharat Ratna: 4 personalities honored with Bharat Ratna, President Murmu to confer award to Advani at his residence

New Delhi: President of India Droupadi Murmu conferred the country's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna, posthumously on former Prime Ministers P.V. Narasimha Rao and Chaudhary Charan Singh, agriculturist M.S. Swaminathan, and Bihar's two-time Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Saturday. Sources said that President Murmu will visit the residence of senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani to confer the award on him.

For former PM Narasimha Rao, Murmu received this honor from his son P.V. Prabhakar Rao. For Chaudhary Charan Singh, his grandson and National Lok Dal (RLD) president Jayant Chaudhary received this honor from the President. On behalf of Swaminathan, his daughter Nitya Rao, and on behalf of Karpoori Thakur, his son Ramnath Thakur received the award from President Murmu.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and other dignitaries were present at the ceremony.

The Central Government had announced five names for the Bharat Ratna this year, which also included BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani. Sources said that President Murmu will visit the residence of senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani and honor him with the prestigious award. They said this decision was taken keeping in view the poor health of the senior BJP leader Advani.

Lal Krishna Advani was born on November 8, 1927, in Karachi. After the formation of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980, he served as the national president of the BJP for a long time.

His parliamentary career spanned nearly three decades, during which he first served as the Home Minister and later as the Deputy Prime Minister in Atal Bihari Vajpayee's cabinet.
